Nitazoxanide is an antiparasitic and antiviral medication used to treat a variety of gastrointestinal infections. It is effective against parasites like Giardia lamblia and Entamoeba histolytica, as well as certain viral infections such as rotavirus and hepatitis C. Nitazoxanide works by inhibiting the enzyme pyruvate: ferredoxin oxidoreductase, which is essential for the survival of the pathogens.

Indications:

• Giardiasis (intestinal infection caused by Giardia lamblia)
• Amebiasis (intestinal infection caused by Entamoeba histolytica)
• Cryptosporidiosis (caused by Cryptosporidium parvum)
• Rotaviral diarrhea in pediatric patients
• Hepatitis C (in combination with other antiviral medications in certain cases)
